일년 가까이 끌어온 타코마한인회 분규가 마침내 종식될 것으로 기대된다.

타코마한인회는  19일 언론에 배포한 합의 동의서를 통해 "지난 14일 셰론 암스트롱 시니어판사의 중재하에 열린 회의에서 비대위(ECC), 이사회(Board), 정정이 전 회장 등 소송 관련 당사자 모두 타코마한인회의 안녕과 이익을 최우선적으로 하고 순조로운 업무 진행을 위해 분쟁을 조정, 합의에 이르게 됐다"고 밝혔다.

이 합의 동의서에 따르면 오는 12월 회장 선거 전까지 임시 이사진 구성과 함께 비대위와 이사회가 각각 회장, 총무, 재무, 선거관리위원장을 선출해 공동체제로 운영하기로 합의했다. 

한인회 임시 이사진은 비대위와 이사회가 각각 동수로 구성하고 임시 이사장은 이사회가 열릴때마다 의장을 선출해 회의를 진행하기로 합의했다. 

이번 논란의 중심에 서있는 정정이 전 회장을 공동체제의 상임 고문으로 임명하고 올들어 지금까지 발표된 제명 처리안도 모두 백지화하기로 합의했다.

또한 임시 이사진은 중립적인 공인회계사를 선택, 2018년 회계장부에 대한 감사를 실시한 후 보고서를 제출하기로 했다.

이같은 내용의 합의 동의서는 오는 9월말 이전에 우편투표를 통한 한인회 회원들의 승인 절차를 거쳐 확정될 예정이다. 전체 회의에서 동의서가 통과되면 현재 진행 중인 소송도 취하하기로 합의했다.     

분규 당사자들은 "이 합의 동의서를 통해 타코마한인회의 지속적인 운영과 함께 타코마 한인커뮤니티를 위해 계속 봉사할 수 있게 됨에 감사한다"는 입장도 밝혔다.

PRESS RELEASE FOR KAAT CR2A SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT

This press release was drafted with the assistance and advice of the parties' mediator, Judge Sharon Armstrong Ret.

The parties KAAT (ECC), KAAT (Board), and Michael Chung are currently involved in litigation concerning the Korean American Association of Tacoma. All parties agree that the well-being of KAAT and its members is their highest priority and have agreed to settle their litigation.

A settlement agreement was reached by the parties on August 14, 2019, the key terms of that agreement include the following:

·         The parties have agreed that an interim board, co-presidents, co-secretaries, co-treasurers, and co-chairs of the Election Committee shall serve until the annual election in December 2019;

·         The interim board will be formed by equal numbers of members of KAAT (ECC) and KAAT (Board);

·         The interim board will not have a chair but will instead select a presiding officer for each meeting;

·         Co-presidents, co-secretaries, co-treasurers, and co-Chairs of the Election Committee will be appointed, one each by KAAT (Board) and KAAT (ECC);

·         All appointments, except co-Chairs of the Election Committee, shall be made on or before August 26, 2019. The election Committee co-Chairs shall be appointed later by the Interim Board in preparation for the December 2019 election;

·         Mr. Michael Chung shall be appointed Director of the Advisory Board;

·         Any expulsions of members which have occurred since December 2018 are null and void;

·         A neutral auditor shall be appointed by the interim board to prepare a 2018 audit report;

·         The membership of KAAT shall vote by mail-in ballot provided to dues-paying members whether to approve the settlement agreement during the month of September 2019;

·         The parties shall dismiss their litigation without prejudice;

·         If the membership approves the settlement agreement, the litigation will come to an end;

·         The parties to this litigation have agreed not to discuss the terms of the settlement agreement with the press except through joint statements by the co-Presidents.

The parties are all gratified that this settlement agreement has provided for KAAT's continued operation and empowered its continued service to the Korean community of Tacoma.
